Nobody would have thought that what was supposed to otherwise be a normal oven installation would wreak such havoc on my home and my life. But as I write this from my executive furnished rental in Tampa that I was able to secure from Stay Avenida here in Tampa FL, I guess that the worst really did happen and I suppose I am somewhat lucky to have this alternative arrangement to use while things get put right.
My home was always a bit antiquated, but I guess that’s natural considering the fact it was built over eighty years ago at this point. However, while a lot of historic homes were constructed many years ago, most owners will actually update them as time goes on so that the structure is still sound but the inner workings of the house are more modern.
In some instances though, as is evident in my house, some owners miss this unspoken rule and simply refuse to do anything to the home at all, despite things falling into disarray around them. I knew going into this home purchase that the previous owners were not really on top of the ball, but I didn’t really imagine this would turn into such a comedy of errors.
After getting an estimate from some contractors in the Tampa FL area for getting a new oven put into my home, I realized that what I had already anticipated to be a fairly significant update was actually turning into an even larger ordeal very quickly! The estimates I received meant a much larger job and the need to explore some ancillary actions as well for other required infrastructure.
I grit my teeth though and accepted one of the estimates and signed the paperwork for the contractor to get started on the updates to have my oven installed and figure out the other systems that tie into the kitchen network. I wasn’t happy, but figured at least I would have a working oven and better resale value at the end of the day.
Little did I know that a few days later, I would receive a call while I was at work that there had been a fire. Apparently the systems in the kitchen were so bad that the safety risk in the space was unforeseeable and that the crew inadvertently started a small fire when redoing some of the lines.
Well, fast forward a bit and I am now staying in this quaint executive furnished rental in Tampa and enjoying the hospitality of Stay Avenida while the contractors sort out the damage and make the repairs to my home. You bet they are also working on getting that oven up and running too.
