As a child I always revered Santa Clause. Every year at Christmas, I would do my best to stay up on Christmas Eve to get a glimpse of the man who brought so much joy to the world during the holidays.
Even though I never did see him in person, and even though my childhood dream was shattered a few years before becoming a teenager, I still always found the legend of Santa Clause to be one of the greatest stories and wanted to emulate his jolly nature as much as possible.
My heart feels like it beats ten times faster over the holiday season, as I see all of the decorations emerging around town as the Christmas lights begin to anoint the homes of my friends, and the storefront windows begin to exude holly and pine. Seeing children running up the mall steps to sit on Santa’s lap with that sparkle in their eye is one of the most amazing sights to behold.
I began performing as Santa Clause while I was still in high school, and while my body morph is not quite like the traditional Santa, I add a few pillows and pads to get the point across. Wearing that red velvet suit brings me alive in such a happy way that I think about it even in the dead of summer while I am sweating my face off!
The minute Thanksgiving ends, I am of like a bullet and into my suite faster than you can recite his 12 Reindeer names! The holiday season is usually very busy for me, just the way I like it.
But this year was particularly special, because for the first time, I was able to attend the Santa Convention in Washington DC. It was a childhood dream come true to see all of the people who, like me, also find so much joy in the Christmas spirit and also work hard to spread the good cheer.
